How to save recipes from Instagram
Updated
Quick answer
To save a recipe from Instagram on iPhone, open the post or Reel, tap the Share icon (the paper plane), open the iPhone share sheet and choose Miso Cook. Miso reads the recipe from the caption and turns it into a list of ingredients and numbered steps. You check the result, edit anything that's off, and save it to your collection, where you can change the servings, add it to your weekly meal plan and send the ingredients to a shared grocery list. This works when the creator wrote the recipe in the caption. If the caption only says "comment RECIPE" or "link in bio", open the recipe page the creator links to and share that page to Miso instead. Miso Cook is free to download for iPhone and iPad, and the free plan includes 5 recipe imports a month.
Save an Instagram recipe in four steps
- 1
Open the post or Reel
Find the recipe you want to keep and tap "more" under the caption. Check that the ingredients and method are written there. That caption is what Miso reads.
- 2
Tap Share and choose Miso Cook
Tap the paper-plane Share icon, then the option at the end of the row that opens the iPhone share sheet, and pick Miso Cook. If you don't see it, scroll to the end of the row of apps, tap More, and add Miso Cook to your favorites.
- 3
Check the recipe preview
Miso shows the ingredients and steps it found. Correct a quantity, rename the recipe or add a missing step before you save. Captions are written in many styles, so a quick look is worth it.
- 4
Save it and plan it
Save the recipe to your collection. Then scale the servings, drop it into a day of your weekly meal plan, or add its ingredients to the grocery list your household shares.
"Comment RECIPE and I'll send it to you"
Many food creators don't put the recipe in the caption. Instead they ask you to comment a word, and an automatic message sends you a link to the full recipe on their website.
Miso can't read the recipe from a direct message, but it can read the page the link opens. Comment as asked, open the link from your messages, and when the recipe page loads in your browser, tap Share and choose Miso Cook.
When the recipe is only in the video
If a Reel shows the recipe only as spoken instructions or on-screen text, and the caption has no ingredients, there is nothing for Miso to import, because it reads the caption only.
Look for a link in the creator's bio or in the comments, and save the written recipe from their website. If there is no written version, you can add the recipe to Miso yourself.
Why not just use Instagram's Saved collections?
Tapping the bookmark keeps the post in your Saved collections, which is great for ideas. When you cook, you still have to find the post again, expand the caption and scroll back and forth between ingredients and steps. If the creator deletes or archives the post, it's gone from your collection.
Saving the recipe itself gives you ingredients and steps as text that stays in Miso, scales to the number of people you're feeding and becomes a shopping list in one tap.

Questions about saving Instagram recipes
Can Miso save a recipe from a Reel without a caption?
No. Miso reads the recipe from the caption. If the recipe is only spoken or shown in the video, save the written version from the creator's website, or add the recipe yourself.
How do I save a recipe the creator sends by DM?
Open the link in the message. When the recipe page loads in your browser, tap Share and choose Miso Cook to save it from the web page.
Is Miso Cook free?
Miso Cook is free to download, and the free plan includes 5 recipe imports a month. A Pro subscription raises the limits and unlocks more features. Current prices are on the pricing page and in the app.
Does it work on Android?
Not at the moment. Miso Cook is available for iPhone and iPad with iOS 18 or later.
Can I save recipes from TikTok and websites too?
Yes. The same Share flow works for TikTok and YouTube descriptions and for recipe websites. Pages with written ingredients and instructions work best.
Can my family see the recipes I save?
Yes, if you create a household in Miso and invite them with a QR code. Members share recipes, meal plans and the grocery list, and changes sync across their devices.
